Promises of Summer?

The first bloom is on the whin,
Yet, still, the March winds blow;
The first bud is on the Rose,
Yet, still, there may be snow.

The first oyster-catcher’s call
Sounds bravely o’er the lea,
The first lapwing starts a nest,
In scrubland by the sea.
